I am set to make a splash this summer! Immersed is probably the most insane thing I’ve ever written. But it has been insanely fun. What was intended to be a serious attempt at contemporary romance ended up turning into a dark steampunk fantasy tongue-in-cheek romantic romp! (Whew!)
What’s it about? Well, there’s a nod to the myth of Melusine and her turbulent past. (FYI: She’s the siren on the Starbucks logo — a water creature with two tails.) And there’s a bit of Chicago history from when the city was raising itself up out of the mud. But mostly there’s monsters and machines and lots of dialogue that is meant to make you snicker. Here’s the general idea:
Melusine Doré slays monsters for a living. The grim and gruesome don’t frighten her; she can take on a cyclops or a three-tailed dragon without even breaking a sweat. But falling in love? Falling in love terrifies her. Because love has the power to reveal a secret dark and dangerous enough to completely shatter her world.

Immersed didn’t come about on its own. I wrote it to take part in a project with the Blazing Indie Collective. All summer, the BIC will be releasing mermaid novellas from serious to silly, from exotic to erotic. There is something for everyone!
